Idaho is one of the fastest growing states. If you are a new homebuyer, second-time homebuyer, or looking to change your insurance plan for any reason, it’s important to understand your options in order to make a decision that best suits your lifestyle. A house is one of the biggest investments anyone will ever make, so it’s important to ensure that your home, your belongings, and your family is protected. Like other states, in Idaho there are many different options for homeowners insurance. In this article, we will be covering the specifics of an HO-2 Form, one of the eight options for homeowners insurance in Idaho.
What is an HO-2 Form?
An HO-2 Broad Form is a homeowners insurance policy that further expands the list of covered events/perils from that of an HO-1 policy.
In addition to things such as fire, theft, and vandalism, HO-2 policies cover other events such as damage from snow or ice. Similar to an HO-1 policy, an HO-2 Broad Form only covers events that are specifically listed in the policy. This means, if an event occurs that causes damage to your home and the event is not specifically named on your insurance policy, then the event will not be covered by your insurance, meaning you will have to pay out of pocket for any damage, injuries, or living expenses should your home become uninhabitable.
Other policies, such as an HO-3 Form, work the other way around. Rather than operating on a named-peril basis, HO-3 Forms protect all events except what is specifically excluded on your policy.
Is an HO-2 Policy right for me?
Choosing the right policy can be simplified when going through these steps:
-
Consider your risks and concerns: HO-2 policies include coverage from snow and ice related damage. Living in Idaho, this sort of peril is more likely to happen. Consider things such as age of your home, which might increase or decrease the risk of certain perils. Read through your policy to determine if it covers your concerns.
-
Consider your budget: HO-2 forms will generally have a premium that’s higher than an HO-1 form, but still more affordable than forms with more coverage, such as an HO-3 form.
-
Talk with an agent: Speaking with an agent can sometimes be the best way of determining which plan will best suit you and your needs. Independent insurance agents, like those here at Insurance 4 Idaho, will be able to offer personalized quotes and expert advice.
